About Us

The school was founded in 1978 by Jacqueline Annis and is based in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.  The school specialises in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, *Adult Tap, *Hip Hop and *Musical Theatre. (*These classes are payable weekly)

The School has also enjoyed performing it's own productions of shows, presented at the Princes Theatre, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex and in recent years over £10,000 has been raised for charity.  Amongst the charities receiving donations have been The Great Ormond Street Hospital for sick children, the Roy Castle Appeal, Tsunami appeal and our local hospice, St Helena.

The School continues with its highly successful examination results and we strive for a balance of expert tuition but at the same time realise the importance of sheer enjoyment of dance, in all its aspects.

"Open Days" are arranged when parents and grandparents are encouraged to come into the School to see their children; an event which is looked forward to with much enthusiasm by the children.

Children from 3 years of age can be accepted into the school.

Jackie started dancing at the age of 9 at the "Ivy Baker School of Dance" in Clacton-on-Sea.  In 1968, she commenced a three year performing arts and teaching course at the prestigious "Bush Davies" school in Romford where she gained major examinations in ISTD and RAD Ballet, Tap, Jazz and National Dance.

She went on to successfully gain her Associate teaching examinations in Classical Ballet, Tap and Modern Theatre.

In 1975, Jackie became a Licentiate of the society and the following year gained her Diploma status.

She has worked extensively in the business both in the UK and abroad.

In 1972 Jackie commenced teaching at the Colchester branch of The Ivy Baker School of Dance and in 1978 when Ivy Baker retired from the school Jackie was made sole principal where she remained for 16 years.

During that time, the school was involved in many charitable events, raising several thousands of pounds for charities including Action Research for the Crippled Child and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

In 1978, the BBC approached Jackie, inviting her school to take part in Roy Castle's "Record Breakers" which was filmed at the BBC's studios in London.  This proved to be so successful that the school was invited back in 1981 to perform again.

In 1988, Jackie opened the Clacton-on-Sea based "Jacqueline Annis School of Dance".  The school maintains its high standard of tuition with 100% success rate in ISTD Examinations in Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap Dance combining that with the presentation of its own large scale productions at The Princes Theatre, Clacton-on-Sea.

Former pupils are now working extensively in the industry, some undertaking national tours, West End productions such as Les Miserables and Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat, performing at Disneyland Paris and teaching at various schools and colleges.

Jackie has recently gained her CDE (Certificate in Dance Education) and has been awarded Licentiate status in Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre and Tap Dance with the IDTA as well as being a Licentiate of the ISTD for the past 30 years.
